What is the aim of this project? To provide food parcels and nutritional support amongst the Fire Victims of Rohingya Refugees in Cox’s Bazar district of Bangladesh for 800 families. Each food package will fulfill daily nutritional requirements for a household for 25-30 days. What are the current ground need /situation on ground? Up to 60% of new arrivals are only eating one meal a day. Risk of communicable disease outbreak is very high given the crowded living conditions, open defecation and severe lack of adequate water and sanitation facilities. Health services are overwhelmed by the sheer number of new arrivals causing gaps in ability to prevent avoidable loss of life including primary and secondary health care, trauma care and rehabilitation, reproductive, maternal, neonatal and child health, SGBV treatment and mental health and psychosocial support specially for many of the women who have experience horrific and widespread GBV and trauma in Myanmar. Recently around 1300 shelters have been destroyed after a fire tore through a Rohingya refugee camp at Teknaf Upazila in Cox’s Bazar. These 1300 families are passing their time with very struggling moment By this project, MWO will distribute 800 food parcels amongst the Rohingya Refugees at Noyapara camp in Teknaf of Bangladesh for who have lost their all by the recent fire accident. Activities: Assessment, identification and registration of beneficiaries for emergency food. Procurement of food items that includes rice, Pulses, edible oil, iodized salt, sugar, Wheat flour, Puffed rice, etc. Quality inspection of food items. Distribution of food packages to Myanmar’s Muslim refugee families. Impact: The project will remove their anxiety for food of their family. The project will motivate other NGOs and other departments to spread their hand for the Myanmar’s Rohingya Refugees by distributing food items. Moreover, the rich local people will come forward being inspired during this season. A community organization can be built for collecting food items whole through the year for this season. Case Studies: Mohammad Shuruj had lost his father (60) and two of his brothers (25 years and 27 years) by the brutal Myanmar Army and Police. Getting no other way, he has come to Bangladesh with his wife (26) and two children (8 and 10). His mother (48) and sister (26) is living with him in a house of very poor condition. He shared that he couldn’t feed his family once for 3 days at the very beginning. But now they are getting food but once daily. He also said that if they do not get any food support, it will be very difficult for them to survive in this Covid-19 pandemic 2nd wave. There is a woman named Sofia Begum who is 61 years old. She lost his only son (42) by the Myanmar Army in front of her eyes. She came to Bangladesh with her 2 grandson (13 and 10) and 2 granddaughters (16 and 12) and his wife in law (36). They are 6 people living together. The oldest grandson of her is 13 years old. They do not have any person who can take the responsibilities of them. Their condition become worsens during this pandemic situation. They are dependent on the aid for their each and every need.
