Food Distribution for the Fire Victims of Rohingya Refugees-2

Background: We all know that the Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals fled with nothing but the clothes on their backs. They left behind all their possessions, their wealth and property. They now depend on handouts from charities to survive. But now the most notable issue is that around 13000 shelters have been destroyed after a fire tore through a Rohingya refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf Upazila. The fire broke out at Nayapara camp in Teknaf Upazila’s Nhilla Union around 3 am on Thursday (14-01-2021), said Md Shamsud Douza, additional commissioner of refugee, relief and repatriation. “Fire service personnel battled the flames for two hours before taking control of the situation. “Efforts are underway to figure out the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage it caused. The victims have lost almost all their assets. They do not have any toilet or washroom even. They have no hope now.   Project Objective: To provide the food supplies for 1200 Rohingya households with a food parcel consisting of: 10kg rice, 4kg of wheat flour, 2 liters of soybean oil, 1kg of puffed rice, 2kg of pulses, 2kg of Chick peas, 1kg salt, 1kg sugar, 1 kg of Dates.   Project Activity: Assessment, identification and registration of beneficiaries for emergency food aid. Procurement of food items that includes 10kg rice, 4kg of wheat flour, 2 liters of soybean oil, 1kg of puffed rice, 2kg of pulses, 2kg of Chick peas, 1kg salt, 1kg sugar, 1 kg of Dates. Quality inspection of food items and distribution of food packages to the needy families.   Project Result: This project activity ensures the proper implementation of the project by identifying the needy person and ensuring a strategically developed distribution. This project activity ensures that the item being distributed among the targeted families are the most needed items for their daily nutritional needs. This project activity ensures the quality and nutritious value of the food items.   Project Impact: The goal of this project is to stand beside the forcibly displaced Myanmar Nationals in the months during the time of Corona (Covid-19) pandemic providing them food items which can solve their problem of food and to reduce sufferings of Children, young girls and old women and men who arrived as Myanmar’s Muslim Rohingya refugee families and the victim helpless poor people through the project. The project is also aimed to provide safe and comfortable shelter to forcibly displaced Myanmar Nationals Rohingiya Refugees. Provision of shelter can reduce the sufferings of refugee Children, young girls, old age men and women.   Project Goal: To provide Food Parcels for 8500 people of 1200 families amongst the Rohingya Refugees previously living at Noyapara camp in Teknaf of Bangladesh who have lost their all by the recent fire accident.   Case Study: Sumaiya Akter, 30 years old, mother of two baby girls 20 months and 10 years old along with his husband, mother –in-law and father-in-law was living in a 7×8 feet shelter located in Cox’s Bazar. She travelled on barefoot and reached Bangladesh twenty eight months ago. She had lost her family members in Myanmar as they were slaughtered by Myanmar Army. When MWO met Sumaiya, she was living in very desperate conditions. Her shelter was burnt by recent fire accident. Moreover, she cannot feed her family members properly. Sometimes they eat once in a day. She was crying when she was describing these. Through IDRF’s assistance, MWO provided Sumaiya’s family a food packages that will fulfill their want of food for one month and very soon their new house will be also constructed. Sumaiya’s family thanked MWO and IDRF for the help and support.
