Sadaqah

Back

Sadaqah is a selfless charitable deed carried out out of friendship, kindness, generosity, compassion, or faith. Anyone in need can receive it, including friends, family, the underprivileged, the homeless, and others. It is not constrained by rules. The only purpose of sadaqah is to please God. If at all possible, it ought to be administered discreetly and from a halal source.

Difference between Sadaqah and Sadaqah Jariyah

Back

While sadaqah is transient, sadaqah jariyah is permanent. For instance, giving a family in need dinner may help them feel full for the evening, but digging a water well will give the community access to clean drinking water for five to ten years.

“ The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, ‘When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: Sadaqah Jariyah (a continuous charity), or knowledge from which benefit is gained, or a righteous child who prays for him ”.

Benefits of giving Sadaqah

Back

     * Sadaqah is thought to have such a high reward that it can carry on long after a person has passed away, as long as others continue to benefit from the deed.

     * Sadaqah offers defense against misfortunes and safeguarding on the Day of Judgment.

     * Giving Sadaqah to the impoverished and in need allows one to meet their needs and ultimately contributes to the establishment of social equality.

     * Sadaqah is also considered a means of fending off illness and bad luck.

     * Sadaqah encompasses various good deeds and is therefore mandatory for all believers to carry out. It is not limited to any specific individual.

“The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed of grain which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies His reward for whom He wills”.
Quran Surat Al- Baqra (Verse 261)
